Last week, EDU received the official international programme accreditations by the German Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS) for our Bachelor of Medicine (B.Med.) and Master of Medicine (M.Med.). The decision of AHPGS had already been taken and communicated on 4 May 2023. With the delivery of the accreditation report and certificates, the AHPGS accreditation process is now final.
AHPGS is an interdisciplinary and multi-professional organisation that evaluates Bachelor and Master programmes in the fields of health and social sciences, as well as in related domains. AHPGS is approved by the German Accreditation Council (Akkreditierungsrat) to run system and programme accreditations for higher education institutions and universities on behalf of the competent authorities in each of the sixteen German Federal States (Bundesländer).
EDU’s B.Med. and M.Med. programmes have been accredited according to European standards as provided for in the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) and the relevant provisions by EQAR and ENQA.
The decision of the AHPGS was based on the following accreditation criteria:
1. Program aims and learning outcomes
2. Curriculum design
3. Personnel
4. Facilities and learning resources
5. Study process and student assessment
6. Program and quality management
During the accreditation procedure, the AHPGS expert group, assigned by the accreditation commission of AHPGS, reviewed the documentation provided by EDU, namely the Self-Assessment Report and its corresponding annexes. Furthermore, the experts carried out a virtual on-site visit at EDU on the 17th of March 2023. During this visit, discussions were held with members of EDU, including administration, degree programme management, teachers, and students. These discussions provided the expert group with details about the study programme beyond the written documents. In addition, the experts carried out class visitations.
